A Swedish apartment with a mid-century touch

I do love a touch of mid-century in a home. And this space in Gothenburg has blended it in with some contemporary Scandinavian pieces so incredibly well. Just look at that mid-century cabinet paired with a Hay strap mirror and brass lamp next to a set of String system shelving. What a great combination!

Stadshem

Lauritz and Liveauctioneers are both great places to pick up a mid-century piece. For more mid-century inspiration I love this, this and this home tour (in case you missed them).

I think this is the third time this week we've seen a black and white kitchen - your style or not? For some alternative kitchen inspiration I have over 1300 beautiful kitchen and dining spaces (yes really! Sign of a slight Pinterest addiction?!) hoarded on my Kitchen Pinterest board.

And there's that wonderful cross blanket again. This time draped over a very cool vintage leather sofa.

Thank you so much to Marie Claire Maison for including me in a list of recommended interior blogs from around the world - what a true honour! Happy Friday to the team!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend (any great plans?) and see you Monday!

The Swedish barn conversion

Last November I featured a fantastic Swedish barn conversion here. I still dream about this home today which is why I was extremely excited to discover more beautiful images of the space shot by Romain Ricard. The yellow in the kitchen makes a wonderful twist on the black and white kitchen we saw yesterday don't you think? And I LOVE that bedroom, so beautiful! Could you sleep there?!

This home seriously makes me want to up sticks and move to the Swedish countryside, how about you?!

The oh so beautiful bedroom has prompted my new product pick of the week today. As you know I'm a big fan of Scandinavian design classics and frequently highlight beautiful chairs. lights, and accessories. But one Scandinavian classic I haven't mentioned are the luxury beds by Hästens. For those of you not familiar with the Swedish brand, Hästens is a company steeped in history having 'been crafting sleep since 1852'. And they're not kidding. Each bed is completely handmade using all natural materials and takes around 160 hours to complete! I've got my eye on the limited edition Stockholm White. Imagine the nights sleep? Bliss! A well deserved product pick of the week!

I'm working from a cafe by the sea today and it's pouring with rain outside - so cosy!

Have a lovely day - rain or shine!

A very cool black and white Swedish home

This is your original white and black contemporary Scandinavian home tour. White (or light wood) floors and walls. black accessories, a yellow accent colour and a really fantastic black and white kitchen. What's not to love?!

Stadshem via Coco Lapine with thanks

A few items I know and love: Hay DLM side table in yellow, I love this black and white print and others here, Pia Wallén cross blanket. Panton chair dS in the kitchen, Black and white striped basket, and Ferm Living half moon basket. Fab fancy finger cushion / pillow by Lucky boy Sunday.

Could you live here?

In this home they've chosen a yellow accent colour and stuck to white walls. However, Swedish paint company Nordsjö announced their colour of the year 2015 yesterday. Which is (drum roll please...) Copper orange. What do you think? Can you see yourself using this hue in your home next year?

Before I dash off  I just want to say a a big warm welcome to all new readers. I hope you like the daily home tours and find some inspiration for your own home! We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below!

Have a lovely day!

The fabulous Finnish home of a creative duo Part III

How many wonderful new angles can you shoot in one home? When it comes to Helsinki based interior architect and designer Joanna Laajisto and photographer Mikko Ryhänen's home the answer is never enough! This will be my third post (see previous posts here and here) and every time the home tour is equally as inspiring! Here are some snap shots of their kitchen, dining room and sitting room taken by Mikko. Pretty incredible don't you think?!

A few items I see and love: White Thonet 209 chairs in the kitchen,  black and white Marimekko bowls, Bertoia sidechairs and sheepskin throw, Carl Hansen CH25 Lounge Chair, a vintage moroccan rug and last but not least a fabulous Knoll Platner coffee table.

I think my favourite thing from these shots (although it's extremely difficult to pin it down to one thing) is the Knoll Platner coffee table and vintage Moroccan rug combination - they work so well together, don't you think?

I could spend my day recovering with my leg raised here (see yesterday's post!), how about you?!

For more beautiful Finnish home tours don't miss this pared back cabin, Minna's family holiday home in the Finnish archipelagos, and a cosy and warm Finnish table setting.  The Finns really do have a great sense of style don't they?!

Have a lovely day!

A calm white, blue and cognac Malmö home

I hope you had a wonderful weekend? Today I've got very zen home to share with you. It's actually for sale here in Malmö, Sweden (come and join us!!).  There's something about the white, blue and cognac combined with the pastels that I love.  It's perhaps a little too empty for my taste (I guess this is part of the estate agent styling) but  I'm sure I could make it my own in no time, how about you?

Bo-laget
Very calm don't you think?

I see they have my favourite chair - the diamond armchair (throw a sheepskin over in the autumn and winter for extra loveliness) and Thonet 214 chairs. Try the 'Cassis' bed linen for similar. I love the black and white art photography in the desk area, any ideas where it's from?

Thank you to Octavie who featured an interview with me on her lovely blog Scandinave on Friday (in French and English). What an honour!

I wasn't sure whether I was going to say anything but I must admit I'm feeling a little sorry for myself  today- I hurt my calf playing sport yesterday and was sent home from A&E with crutches and now awaiting an ultra sound. Have you ever hurt your achilles heel or a muscle in your calf before? It's soooo painful! Mind you, not all's bad, I get to spend a rainy Monday in bed reading/ watching Netflix, kind of bliss!

Have a lovely day!

Small space inspiration: a lovely Swedish apartment

It's the weekend. woohoo! It's a special one in our home as my youngest turns 4! She's asked to go horse riding for her birthday so we'll be heading out into the forest with a few friends. I'm so looking forward to it as the leaves are just starting to turn red and yellow and the forest floor is lined with mushrooms and toadstools. Such a lovely time of year! Before I head off I wanted to share this lovely home with you (for sale here). Believe it or not it's only 41 metres square with the sitting room, sleeping area and home office combined in one room. Despite the limitations there's something very calm and uncluttered about it. Perfect inspiration for a small living area don't you think?

Entrance styled by Karin.

I especially love the office area. Is there anything that stands out to you?

For more small space inspiration check out the archive - warning, there's quite a few so you may want to pour yourself a coffee first!

Have you got any plans for the weekend? Taking it easy? Decorating? Walk along the beach? Kite flying? Wild night out? Would love to hear your plans and what you do in your part of the world.

Have a great couple of days and see you Monday!

The beautiful home of a Danish author

This home is incredible (thank you for the tip Husligheter). In fact, I'll be pinning every single image. It's the home of Danish born, novelist Annika von Holdt author of The Mummers Play, Sleep Like the Dead, The Night Hour and The haunted. Annika and her family divide their time between Copenhagen (featured) and the Bahamas (sounds like my idea of heaven!). You can gain a wonderful insight into Annika's life, creative process and see more beautiful pictures of her home on her blog here. In the meantime here are a few of my favourite snaps.

Annika von Holdt via Husligheter

What a beautiful home, I love the way the space has been photographed and the treatment too. Anything you love in particular?

A few items I know and love: source luxuriously soft linen bedding here. I've always been a big fan of the Knoll diamond chair and Bertoia side chair. I also spy a black Eames RAR rocker and a Panton chair. Try IKEA for thin picture shelves to create a wall like Annika's.

You can also follow Annika on Instagram (love the picture of her kitty cat!).

Have a lovely day!
